Dreams Playa Mujeres Wedding Review: Costs, Packages & Tips
Dreams Playa Mujeres is one of the best destination wedding resorts in the Cancun region — and I’ll stand behind that. I just planned a wedding there this past April and have three more on the books. For 30 to 60 guests, it’s a strong choice.
That said, I’m not here to sell you a brochure.

You’ll see this resort marketed as one of the top family-friendly properties in the area. When I was there, it just didn’t give me that vibe. I’ve worked at resorts where the family programming genuinely impresses me. This isn’t one of them.
Where it earns its reputation is on the wedding side.
What I Actually Think About Dreams Playa Mujeres for Weddings
Pre-event communication was a real friction point for my April couple. Things that were clearly requested didn’t happen, and getting the resort to move on anything required consistent pushing. My clients booked the Presidential Suite with terrace access and wanted to use it for their welcome party. Simple request. The resort pushed back for no good reason. We got it done, but it took more effort than it should have.
Day-of coordination was uneven too. The bride ended up handling hair for herself and her bridesmaids because the spa didn’t execute what was requested. Spa communication is a known weak point at resort weddings generally. You’re not working with your trusted person, and that matters. It’s exactly why I recommend adding a dedicated day-of coordinator to your plan if you can swing it.
Overall, Dreams Playa Mujeres is still one of the best options for a destination wedding in this region. Just go in with the right expectations and the right support.
What Are the Dreams Playa Mujeres Wedding Packages?
Dreams Playa Mujeres offers four wedding packages in 2027, built for very different event sizes and budgets. The right one depends entirely on your guest count, not just your price point.
Wedding in Paradise
This one starts at $1,599 (Mon–Wed, Aug–Oct) and covers a symbolic ceremony for up to 10 guests: coordinator, bouquet and boutonniere, wedding cake and sparkling wine toast, newlywed package, and a complimentary anniversary night stay. It becomes complimentary when you book at least 7 nights in a qualifying room category, or when 5 rooms are booked for at least 3 nights each. For couples eloping or keeping it truly intimate, this is a complete event, not a stripped-down starter option.
Elope in Luxury
This package starts at $1,799 and is designed specifically for two. It includes hair and makeup for one person, a symbolic ceremony, 20 digital photos, romantic dining the night of the wedding, a complimentary hydrotherapy circuit, and a room upgrade based on availability. If you want the full wedding experience without the guest list, this package delivers it cleanly.
Eternal Love
The most popular package starts at $5,349 (Mon–Wed, Aug–Oct) and is where the package structure gets substantive. It covers up to 20 guests across four events: rehearsal dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour with live Mexican trio, and a 3-hour private reception. Included are 50 digital photos, edited ceremony video, hair and makeup, one couple’s spa treatment, floral centerpieces for the ceremony and sweetheart table, and a complimentary room the night before the wedding. The Gold menu is standard throughout. Additional guests run $105 per person plus tax and service.
Beyond Memorable
My most recommended package starts at $12,649 (Mon–Wed, Aug–Oct) and is structured for 50–79 guests. It includes four private events — welcome cocktail party, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception — plus $100 in resort coupons per guest, spa access for the couple and parents, sparkling wine and fresh fruit in suite for up to 3 rooms on arrival, and a romantic breakfast in bed the morning after the wedding. This package has a key condition: it requires a cumulative minimum of 75 paid room nights from your guest group. If that threshold isn’t met, the package pricing goes away and you’re building costs à la carte. Confirm that requirement with your resort coordinator before you commit to this tier.
What Do Dreams Playa Mujeres Wedding Packages Actually Cost in Total?
The package price and your total spend are two different numbers. Real wedding data from this property puts total spend in the $25,000–$33,000 range once you combine a mid-tier package with typical customizations. One detailed 2025 breakdown showed a final bill of $32,356: an $11,499 package with $20,857 in extras.
That ratio tells you everything. The package is often less than half of what you’ll spend. The upgrade column is where the bill builds.
What Drives the Extra Cost
The most common budget-inflating add-ons at Dreams Playa Mujeres include:
- Upgraded florals beyond the designated ceremony and sweetheart tables
- External photographer fees (the resort charges a vendor access fee for outside photographers)
- Enhanced sound equipment beyond the single speaker included in packages
- Additional event hours past the 3-hour reception window
- Menu upgrades above the Gold standard (charged per person across your entire guest count)
- Private event lighting and décor beyond what’s packaged
None of these are unreasonable line items. Most couples find them well worth it. But they are predictable — if you know they’re coming before you build your budget.
What Are the Ceremony Venues at Dreams Playa Mujeres?
Dreams Playa Mujeres has six outdoor ceremony venues, and each one has a hard capacity ceiling you need to match against your guest list before you fall in love with it.
The over-the-water platform is the one couples see in photos and immediately request. It tops out at 80 guests. If your list exceeds that number, the Central Garden platform (up to 350 guests) is your workhorse. The Beach Gazebo holds up to 150 guests, while the Presidential Suite Terrace and the Paramount Suite Terrace cap at approximately 80 and 60 guests respectively. Note that the Paramount Suite Terrace requires a minimum two-night stay when used as a wedding venue — factor that in before you build an event around it. If you’re comparing properties in the same corridor, see how the venues stack up in our SLS Playa Mujeres wedding guide.
For receptions, the Ballroom holds up to 350 guests and is the right call during rainy season (June through October, when afternoon showers are common in the Cancun region) or when your event needs sound containment. The Azure Veranda handles up to 100 guests.
Venue fees are included in the packages. The decision is purely about fit and aesthetic — which means your guest count should be finalized, or at least estimated accurately, before you have this conversation with the wedding coordinator.
Is Dreams Playa Mujeres a Good Resort for Wedding Guests?
This is the question couples don’t always think to ask — but your guests will be living the resort experience for 4–7 days, so it matters.
Based on recent guest feedback, a few things stand out consistently.
What Guests Love
The resort is spacious, easy to navigate, and genuinely feels secluded without being isolating. Rooms are consistently described as large and well-maintained. The staff gets high marks across the board — attentive, responsive, and frequently going out of their way. The app-based service request system works well for families who don’t want to track down staff in person.
For families with kids, the resort delivers. The splash pad, kid’s pool, and teen zone activity programming give younger guests real options. One guest whose 11-year-old attended over spring break noted he was gone from morning to evening — volleyball, water polo, swim competitions, beach volleyball, soccer, flag football — and only surfaced for meals. The evening entertainment shows also got consistent mentions from families.
The resort connects to Secrets Playa Mujeres next door, and guests can dine there for a change of scenery. Several reviewers specifically mentioned that dinner at Secrets felt like a nice break from the main resort — a good tip to pass along to your guests.
What to Warn Your Guests About
Two things come up repeatedly in recent guest feedback. First, pool chair availability is genuinely competitive. Chairs get claimed as early as 5:30 AM, which is unusual even by all-inclusive standards. Guests who aren’t early risers will struggle to find spots without tipping the pool concierge.
Second, with 2–3 weddings happening on property most evenings, some guests — particularly families in adjacent rooms — have noted that late-night reception noise can be an issue. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s worth noting when you help guests choose their room category.
The Preferred Club Upgrade
If there’s one thing I’d tell every couple to communicate clearly to their guests, it’s this: the Preferred Club upgrade changes the experience meaningfully. Guests who booked it had access to beach cabanas, a quieter lazy river area with consistent lounge availability, a sit-down breakfast option with a patio, and noticeably better lounge food — fresh fruit, green smoothies, freshly squeezed juices. No scramble for chairs.
For a resort where pool seating is a known friction point, Preferred Club effectively solves the problem. If your guests are making a significant investment to travel to your wedding, it’s worth steering them toward this category from the start.
How Far Is Dreams Playa Mujeres from Cancun Airport?
The resort sits in Costa Mujeres, north of the Cancun Hotel Zone. That distinction matters for transfer logistics. The drive from Cancun International Airport to Dreams Playa Mujeres is approximately 33–35 minutes under normal conditions, around 31 kilometers by road.
Guests who search “Cancun airport transfer” generically will find pricing and timing built for the Hotel Zone — a different route entirely. Couples who leave transfers to their guests to sort out independently end up with arrival-day confusion, missed shuttles, and guests who paid three times the going rate for an unplanned taxi. Give your guests specific transfer instructions with a recommended provider. It takes 20 minutes to set up and saves a lot of headaches on arrival day.
What Is the Booking Timeline for a Dreams Playa Mujeres Wedding?
Weekend dates during peak season — November through April — disappear first. Couples searching for 2026 dates have reported near-zero weekend availability when starting 12 months out. That’s not a scare tactic. It’s what couples who waited are reporting back.
The planning sequence that actually works:
- 18–24 months out: Confirm your date, sign the venue contract
- 16–18 months out: Send save-the-dates, open room block reservations
- 12 months out: Finalize package selection, begin vendor conversations
- 6 months out: Confirm guest counts, collect RSVPs
- 60–90 days out: Submit final payments, lock down event-day logistics
The biggest mistake couples make is treating 12 months out as early. At Dreams Playa Mujeres, 12 months out is mid-planning. If you’re just starting there, you’re behind on both availability and pricing. For the full week-by-week breakdown of what to do and when, use our destination wedding timeline as your planning roadmap.
What Does the On-Site Wedding Coordinator Actually Handle?
The resort’s on-site coordinator manages logistics on the day of your event. Setup times, resort department coordination, ceremony execution — that’s their scope, and they’re genuinely good at it.
What they don’t do: negotiate add-on pricing on your behalf, manage your guest RSVP tracking, review your room block contract, source or vet outside vendors, or build the planning timeline that covers every decision between now and your event day. Their job starts when you arrive. Everything before that is your responsibility — or your planner’s.
That gap isn’t a criticism of the resort team. It’s a structural reality of how on-site coordinators operate. And it’s exactly where having a dedicated destination wedding planner makes the difference between a wedding that runs and a wedding that feels effortless.
